Making a Documentary: A Journey of Veterans, Pageantry, and PTSD Awareness
Creating a documentary is no small feat, especially when it intertwines personal stories with broader societal issues. This blog entry explores the unique documentary we are producing in partnership with The Veterans Channel, capturing my path as the first veteran to win a Canadian pageant title and compete in Mrs. Universe 2024 in South Korea.
Being a previous serving member comes with its own set of challenges and triumphs, and stepping into the world of pageantry adds another layer of complexity. This documentary aims to offer a glimpse into this dual existence, highlighting not just personal growth but also the advocacy for PTSD awareness and veteran representation on international platforms.
An integral part of this documentary is the creation of a national costume that holds significant meaning. Designed to represent Canada and its rich military history, the costume features poppies handmade by veterans from across the country. Each poppy tells a story, contributing to a larger narrative that honors those who have served.
Through interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and authentic storytelling, we aim to capture the heart of these intertwined journeys—my own as a competitor and the collective experiences of veterans who contributed to this project.
This documentary is more than just a personal story; it’s a platform to raise awareness about PTSD. By sharing experiences and struggles, we hope to offer insight and support to those who may be silently fighting similar battles.
Stay tuned for updates and behind-the-scenes glimpses as we continue this incredible documentary-making journey. This is not just a story about pageantry; it’s about honoring veterans, raising awareness, and celebrating resilience.
If you’re passionate about supporting veterans and raising PTSD awareness, follow along with our documentary’s progress and join us in bringing these stories to light. Your engagement and support are invaluable to this mission.
